As users people interact with content, they earn points. This gamification encourages them to keep engaging with your platform.

Point totals can be seen in the leaderboard, designated by a lightning bolt in the upper right corner of any platform page. By clicking on the lightning bolt icon, a popup window will appear showing the top three attendees on the leaderboard.

Earning points

Points can be earned by performing certain actions around the site. Each action can only be performed once per piece of content to receive points, encouraging attendees to engage with as many pieces of content as possible for the maximum number of points. For example, an attendee can only earn points once per session for using an emoji. Once an action is performed, an attendee’s score will update, seen to the right of the lightening bolt icon in the upper right corner of any platform page. See the table below for a list of actions and their explanations. (or link to attendee section?)

Multipliers

Multipliers can be used to assign a higher weight of points for certain content. For example, you may choose to add a multiplier to higher tiered exhibitors, making actions on those pages worth more points that other exhibitors. Multipliers on any piece of content multiply all the actions on a particular piece of content by the integer of the multiplier. This means that if there is a 2x multiplier on a specific exhibitor, each points-gaining action (i.e., answering questions, clicking “Favorite”, clicking “Complete”, etc.) will earn double the amount of points per action.

Similarly, if there is a 5x multiplier on a session, each points-gaining action - such as using an emoji or commenting in the chat - will earn 5x the amount of points per action. Remember, though, actions can only earn points once per piece of content.

The leaderboard

The leaderboard features the top 3 users. Then all users are listed below, in ranked order.

At any time, you can reset the leaderboard to return everyone’s points to zero. For example, if you host a new contest each day during an event, you might announce a winner in the evening before resetting for the next day.

Points multipliers

Normally, the same action is worth the same number of points no matter where it is on the site. But with points multiplier tags, you can make actions on some content worth more points. Add a points multiplier to any content page that you want to encourage people to interact with.

The tags look like this: 2x, 5x, 10xSee all default points multiplier tags.

For example, if you add a 2x tag to higher-tier exhibitors, the Favorite action on those pages is worth twice as many points as the Favorite action on other exhibitor pages. If you add a 4x tag, the action is worth four times as many points.

Ways to earn points

Earn points by taking these actions around the site. You’ll know when you’ve earned points because an animation plays in the top-right corner of the screen.

You can only perform each action once per piece of content. For example, when you send a chat message in a session, you gain points. But when you send a second chat message in the same session, you don’t earn anything. This means you should interact with as many pieces of content as possible for the maximum number of points.

Set up gamification- move to importer section

are there default points values or do clients make them up every time from this blank template?

Point values can be designated by your team. In order to set your gamification structure, use the Gamification Template your Client Success Manager puts on Basecamp. This template allows you to designate the value of each action offered as well as specify pieces of content that will have multiplier tags on them.

One of the main reasons attendees reason people enjoy gamification is the opportunity to earn prizes! If it suits your conference, organize prizes that can to be sent to attendees post-conference for the leaders on the the winners of your leaderboard.

With every contest comes rules. Think about the rules you’d like to apply to this We recommend considering rules you’d apply to a contest:

  • How many prizes do can you have to give away?

  • Would you like to reset the leaderboard at any point during your conference? If so, when would you like it reset?

  • Who is eligible to earn prizes?
