Viewing Prerequisites on the Course Homepage

As a learner, you can check the prerequisites for a course on its homepage.

Understanding prerequisites

Prerequisites are specific requirements or conditions that you must meet before you are allowed to enroll in and take that course. These prerequisites are in place to ensure that you have the necessary background knowledge, skills, or qualifications to engage with the course material successfully.

Locating prerequisites

On the course homepage,

locate the Prerequisites Required section

It displays the title Prerequisites and conditions for each set of prerequisites.

Displaying Prerequisites:

  • Prerequisites are displayed as a list.

  • When a prerequisite has equivalents, it shows the name of the prerequisite and its equivalents in one bullet point.

Unmet prerequisites

If a learner enrolls in a course that requires a prerequisite, the Start Course button is greyed out, and the prerequisites required are listed above the course description in a box that states Conditions must be met for the prerequisite(s) listed.

  1. Start the course button

    • When a course has unmet prerequisites, the Start Course button is grayed out.

    • Prerequisites Required are displayed at the top left of the course description.

    • Selecting Start Course prompts the Prerequisites Required popup.

    • The popup states that You haven't completed the required prerequisites for this course yet. Please enroll in those courses first and return once they’ve been completed.

    • It provides a call to action button, OK.

Course prerequisites are displayed in a bullet-point list. Equivalents are grouped together, providing you with clear options for gaining access to the course.

Handling unmet prerequisites

The Start Course button remains inactive if a course requires prerequisites that you have not met. The details for the required prerequisites are listed in the Prerequisite Required section above the course description and below the start course button.

Once you attempt to start the course, a pop-up window will appear, reminding you of the outstanding prerequisites and informing you that you haven't completed the necessary prerequisites yet. The message encourages you to enroll in the relevant courses first and return once you've fulfilled these requirements.
