How to Customize Navigation Links in the Site Admin
Overview: This guide will walk you through customizing the navigation items in your site's header and side navigation using the Site Admin section.
Steps:
Accessing the Site Admin
Select the settings cog at the website's top right-hand side to access the Site Admin.
Navigating to the Navigation settings
Once in the Site Admin section, locate and select Navigation from the left-side Nav to access the navigation settings.
Overview of the Navigation Page
The navigation page has two sections, the first section is the Header Nav section. Links created, edited, and deleted here are will reflect on your sites header nav - updates are viewed in real time through the Save button.
The second section is the Quick Links section. Links created, edited, and deleted here are reflected on your site’s side navigation. Updates can be viewed in real-time through the Save button.
Each section functions the same with the ability to Add, Reorder, and Delete links to each section. Use the corresponding save button to update the section according to the changes made within the section. Below, you will find directions on how to create, edit, reorder, and delete navigation items.
Customizing the Header Navigation:
on the navigation page, find the Header Nav section.
Here, you will encounter a roster of default navigation links that are initially visible. You can create new links, edit them, adjust their order, or delete them. Additionally, you can create new icons using the Add Link button.
Customizing the Quick Links Navigation:
On the Navigation page, find the Quick Link section.
Here, you will encounter a roster of default navigation links that are initially visible. You can create new links, edit them, adjust their order, or delete them. Additionally, you can create new icons using the Add Link button.
Creating new Navigation items
In the header navigation section, select the Add Link button.
Once selected, the Create Quick Link window opens with options for:
Link Text
This text will show on the button or as a tooltip and is required.
Destination with a Checkbox to designate internal (default on).
The destination of the link. Search for Pages, Courses, Groups, or Library content to create an internal link.
To create an external link that will open in a new tab, uncheck the internal box and add a URL.
Icon
Choose an icon to accompany the link. If you have already set an icon for an internal link with a photo, the icon will show instead of the photo.
Link Style
Choose from the 3 link styles:
Text: Text with an optional icon to the left
Icon: Only a large icon shows with a tooltip on hover
Icon with Text: A large icon with text underneath
Once all the information is filled out, select the Create button to finish setting up the new header nav item.
Edit Navigation items
Select the Pencil icon on the navigation item you want to edit to open the Edit Navigation Link window.
Here you can update:
Link Text
Destination
Icon
Link style
Save changes using the Save button to ensure your updates are saved.
The Cancel button will cancel all updates and close the Edit Navigation Link window
Deleting Navigation items
Select the X icon on the navigation item you want to delete
Select the Save button to ensure your changes are updated.
Reordering Navigation items
Click to drag the navigation item you want to reorder and drop them where you want them.
Save changes to ensure your changes are updated.
Saving Changes
After making any changes, select the Save button to apply the updates to the navigation section you are working in.
End Result: You have successfully customized the Navigation link shown in your site's header and side navigation sections according to your preferences.
